Philipp Wiesner is a postdoctoral researcher in the Distributed and Operating Systems group at TU Berlin, where he completed his PhD in 2025. Prior to academia, he worked as a software engineer at companies in Berlin and Munich.

His research lies at the intersection of energy and computing systems, with a special focus on large-scale AI systems. He investigates how machine learning workloads and other distributed systems can align their energy demand with the availability of renewable electricity, enabling more sustainable operation without sacrificing performance or reliability.

More broadly, his work addresses the design and operation of efficient computing systems and approaches for making their energy use and emissions measurable and transparent. He is particularly interested in interdisciplinary perspectives that connect system design with questions of accountability and governance.
